Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation Plan

Upper Merion Township Board of Supervisors will be implementing a multi-step mitigation plan for the invasive emerald ash borer beetles that are attacking ash trees nationwide, and locally along the Valley Forge West Trail at Heuser Park. The plan includes herbicide treatment for the reduction or elimination of non-native invasive plants, pre-treatment of non-affected ash trees, removal of diseased trees, and eventual reforestation. The initial step in the plan, herbicide treatment for the reduction or elimination of non-native invasive plants, will take place at the Valley Forge West Trail in Heuser Park beginning on August 14, 2017. The spraying will take approximately one week to 10 days, and the trail will be closed to the public for the duration of the spraying, as well as for 48 hours following the date of the last treatment.
