About the Upper Merion 2040 Comprehensive Plan
A comprehensive plan is two things. It is a document that will provide an officially adopted framework for managing continued growth, while preserving existing assets. It will determine how we update the zoning code, apply for funding, and prioritize investments over the next two decades. Simultaneously, it is also a process that will allow the community, residents, staff, and elected officials alike, to engage in questions of land use and development in a way that is aspirational, organized, and actionable; to project our residents’ collective vision for the future of Upper Merion on the landscape of the Township.
As stated in the Township’s 1967 Comprehensive Plan, “Forces which shaped the Upper Merion of today were largely those from the outside – The Turnpike, the Expressway, and the decision by General Washington to spend the Winter in what is now Valley Forge National Historical Park. The Township’s future, however, will largely depend upon policy decisions from within its own boundaries if a position of significance is to be maintained. With leadership comes responsibility:
- To Upper Merion’s present & future residents;
- To its commercial and industrial establishments;
- To its educational, religious and other cultural institutions;
- To the Region of which Upper Merion is so much a part.”
Please use this site to get informed, stay engaged, and keep up to date on the comprehensive planning process. We will post information about upcoming events and outreach opportunities as well as any new data, analysis, and information that we are able to generate.
