Outdoor enthusiasts will have another source of community identity and pride with the continuation of the Schuylkill River West Trail. This multi-use 15.5 mile continuous trail and greenway will start in Philadelphia and Bala Cynwyd, run through Lower Merion Township, to the border of West Conshohocken, continuing through Bridgeport and Upper Merion Township.
The Schuylkill River West Trail project in Upper Merion Township, which began in 2007, was envisioned and advanced by Upper Merion Township’s Board of Supervisors. It was recognized that being in the presence of nature while walking, hiking or running has added benefits for physical and mental health and enjoyment. This newly completed segment of the trail begins in Heuser Park and continues outside Valley Forge National Historical Park near the US 422 Bridge.
Upper Merion residents now have access to the Valley Forge National Historical Park, Heuser Park and Bob Case Park. The Schuylkill River West Trail project will be over 2 miles in length in Upper Merion Township.
