FEMA Map Modernization Process
The Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) has completed the latest of their decennial updates to the FEMA Floodplain Maps for Montgomery County, including those located in Upper Merion Township. The new floodplain maps were adopted by FEMA on March 2, 2016.
The township is required as a participant in the National Flood Insurance program to adopt regulations according to federal requirements and maintain resources accessible to the public in relation to these new maps.

Letter of Map Amendment
Some property owners in the township have seen changes to their flood insurance rates or requirements as a result of these these mapping changes from FEMA. Due to the scope of FEMA’s remapping process it is sometimes the case that structures are placed in the determined floodplain by error: that the elevation of the property is in fact above the base flood elevation as determined by FEMA.
If you would like to dispute the placement of your property or home within a FEMA designated floodplain, you can submit an application for a Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA), which can be found on FEMA’s website. For more information on the LOMA process, please contact FEMA directly at 1-877-336-2627.
Additionally, if you have any questions regarding the LOMA process and the information and resources that the township can provide please call Kyle Brown, Associate Planner at (610) 265-2606.
