The Upper Merion Police Department’s K-9 Unit has proudly partnered with The Hometown Foundation, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and their families in surrounding communities. The Hometown Foundation is known for hosting fundraisers and events and for their volunteer work that heavily supports local communities. Some of the Upper Merion K-9 officers have attended Hometown events in the past such as their Dream Ride event held once a year to help fundraise for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Our relationship with The Hometown Foundation began in 2019 when they provided Upper Merion Police with a trained police K-9 (K-9 Maddie). Since then, the Hometown Foundation has provided essential equipment and training aids to the unit at no cost to us. Due to the Hometown Hero Foundation’s considerable generosity to our unit, a portion of donations given to Upper Merion’s K-9 Unit will go directly to The Hometown Foundation while the remaining portion is used locally to support the Unit.
K-9s Assist Police Officers in Many Ways:
- Track suspects and missing persons, perform area searches to locate suspects
- Extensively trained in conducting explosive detection
- Detect hidden firearms, expended casings, and other evidence
- Assist in locating lost or missing persons/officers
- Perform valuable educational demonstrations and programs
When the K-9’s workday is over, the dog goes home to be with their family. We believe that is best for the dog to keep them happy and healthy!
Meet Our K9s!
We Need Your Help!
The cost of outfitting a K-9 team is significant and ongoing. To offset costs, the Upper Merion Police Department has partnered with the Hometown Foundation, Inc. to raise funds for new K-9 Officers. 100% of funds will be used for the K-9 Program – covering the cost to purchase the K-9s, as well as to help the department secure the vital safety K-9 equipment and training that is required for the longevity of the program.
