The PA Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) has adopted new water quality testing standards to which water vending operations such as Upper Merion Township’s facility at Nor-View Farm must adhere. In addition, the Township has been made aware that the US Environmental Protection Agency will also adopt new water quality standards that may be more stringent than those of the PA DEP. Both sets of standards are scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2024.
After an extensive review, the Township has determined that the water vending equipment at Nor-View Farm is not able to achieve the standards set forth by the PA DEP. As a result, the Board of Supervisors has made the difficult decision to close the water vending operations permanently. Use of the non-potable water drawn from the spring will be limited to caring for the plants and animals on the property. In addition, public water will be installed to supply the tenants on the property.
