The Upper Merion Shade Tree and Beautification Commission is composed of community volunteers (including Certified Arborists, Landscape Architects and other concerned residents) who are passionate about the preservation of trees and green space within Upper Merion Township.
The Commission’s functions include the following:
- Holds regular public meetings to discuss Upper Merion tree-related topics
- Provides advice about the maintenance and care of trees on township property
- Alerts the Board of Supervisors of tree hazards
- Reviews development plans to identify concerns about trees’ health and survival and to ensure compliance with established ordinances
- Routinely installs new plantings to augment our green spaces and parks
- Promotes volunteers from the community and businesses to help plant and maintain trees
- Encourages community pride by presenting beautification awards annually to residents who have improved their property landscapes
- Educates through videos on the township website and through hands-on demonstrations
- Coordinates with township staff, the Upper Merion Park Partners Program, and other township committees
