Community Profile

Welcome to Upper Merion Township, one of the most vibrant centers of business and recreation in Pennsylvania.

Upper Merion is a township in Montgomery County located in southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 15 miles from Philadelphia. Its roughly 17 square miles is home to over 36,000 residents, hosts over 65,000 jobs, and offers over 9.5 million square feet of office space. It also contains Valley Forge National Historical Park, visited by over 1.2 million people per year, and the King of Prussia Mall, which is the nation’s largest shopping mall in terms of square footage of retail space.

From 1950 to 1980 the township population boomed, gaining about 650 new residents per year on average. Since 1980, population growth has begun to level off to a more manageable rate. This report provides a summary of the growth that can be expected in the township over the next 10 to 15 years. These growth projections include charts and graphs depicting population, housing, and employment growth in the future.

Led by dedicated township supervisors, local government prioritizes practical, community-driven solutions, ensuring services align with residents’ needs and resources. As we celebrate Local Government Week, let’s honor townships’ pivotal role in our democratic system, serving the community steadfastly through all challenges.
