Pennsylvania American Water has issued a voluntary conservation notice for customers in Norristown, Royersford, Upper Merion Township, and surrounding areas following a drought watch from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Due to unusually dry conditions and minimal rainfall in the forecast, residents are urged to reduce non-essential water usage.
This conservation request applies to several Montgomery and Chester County municipalities, including East Norriton, Limerick, Lower Providence, Plymouth, and Upper Merion.
To help manage water supply, the following non-essential uses are discouraged:
- Watering lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, and other plants (except by hand-held hose or container)
- Washing paved surfaces (streets, garages, sidewalks, driveways, etc.)
- Watering golf courses (other than tees and greens)
- Using water for ornamental purposes (fountains, waterfalls, etc.)
- Cleaning motor vehicles
- Serving water in public eating places unless requested
- Flushing sewers except for public health and safety reasons
- Using fire hydrants for purposes other than fighting fires
Water Conservation Tips Pennsylvania American Water offers these tips to conserve water indoors and outdoors:
- Run dishwashers and clothes washers only with full loads. Use water-saver cycles if available.
- Regularly check for and repair leaks in toilets, faucets, and pipes.
- Install water-saving showerheads, toilets, and faucet aerators.
- Use water and energy-efficient appliances with the WaterSense label.
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or washing dishes.
- Use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks, driveways, or patios.
